OUR HISTORY

SERVING WALWORTH COUNTY SINCE 2009

The Walworth County Food Pantry was started in May 2009 by a group of Boy Scouts and their wagons along with their parents collecting food for people in need.  Passionate volunteers like Frank Guske Jr. and Sal Dimiceli were instrumental.  Our first location was on County Road H in Lake Geneva, and we moved into our current facility in 2014.  The pantry provided for our community through volunteer work led by the tireless efforts of Jim and Ardith Drescher.  In 2017, Susan and John Hughes (pictured here) took over the operations and began great work to expand offerings, enter strategic partnerships, and coordinate with other pantries in the area to increase buying power.

Through it all, the operations have always been nearly 100% powered by volunteers and funded by the generosity of local businesses, neighbors, families, and friends.

Today, The Walworth County Food and Diaper Bank owns their 6,000 square foot building, commercial freezers and coolers, warehouse equipment, and 24' box truck, and employs a small staff to secure its future stability.

Together,

we lift up our neighbors and fight to end hunger in Walworth County.

We believe that:

  • Together we can solve hunger.
  • All people deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion.
  • Collaboration with partners throughout our community leads to innovative solutions.

We operate in fiscal responsibility with transparency and accountability.  We also work to provide food assistance to other food pantries in the county.

We are volunteer driven and privately funded.

The Walworth County Food & Diaper Bank is not a government agency and is not affiliated with the Walworth County public administration.

We partner with Feeding America, Hunger Task Force, the USDA, the Wisconsin Hunger Federation, the National Diaper Bank Network and the Alliance for Period Supplies to help provide for our neighbors.

Through all of these partnerships and careful procurement procedures, we are able to purchase food, diapers and period supplies at significant discounts.

"The Walworth County Food & Diaper Bank has always been very helpful to us in many ways. They receive deliveries from Feeding America that we can pick up from them instead of having to drive to Milwaukee. They share information and expertise. Walworth County would be sorely lacking without the services of the Walworth County Food & Diaper Bank."
